2007 - SANTA CATARINA
This illustration was published in the Brazilian edition of COMPUTER ARTS in December 2007.
The idea came up when I was invited to join BUMBA DESIGN, a Brazilian design project that had 27 illustrators and design studios, one for each state. I represented Santa (Saint) Catarina, the state I was living in at the time. I wanted to make a collage so I looked for a divine figure that could represent the saint. Behind her there's an island representing Florianopolis. The fish women represented two peculiar characteristics of this state, which is famous for its beautiful women and its coast side, where one of the oldest activities is fishing. Even though, instead of mermaids I chose the fish women, which were more sarcastic.
The skylines represent the state's different weather seasons, which is both good and bad (Sometimes it rains too much). The ships represent the state's early colonizers: Portuguese, Italian and German families.
The remaining elements represent the state's main attractions: beaches, parties, Oktoberfest and Beto Carrero Amusement park.
I was very fortunate in this project because I had the chance to work with my sister, Aline.
